The Gloucester Speleological Society runs this website for our members and anyone who's curious about caving. We collect as little as we can, and we don't sell or share your data. Here's a plain rundown of the few things that happen behind the scenes.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to get a rough idea of how many people visit and which pages are popular. It doesn't use cookies, it doesn't follow you around other sites, and it doesn't build any kind of profile of you. All we ever see are anonymous, aggregated numbers.
Cookies for members
If you're a member and you log in, we set one cookie (called gss.auth) so the site remembers you as you move between pages. It's what keeps you signed in, and without it you'd be logged out on every click. We don't use any tracking or advertising cookies, and if you never log in, no cookie is set at all.
New to cookies, or want to clear the ones in your browser? These guides explain what they are and how to manage them:
Settings saved in your browser
We keep a couple of small preferences in your browser's own local storage so the site behaves the way you left it. Right now that's your light or dark colour mode, and whether you've dismissed our cookie notice. These settings stay on your device, they never reach us, and you can clear them at any time from your browser.
